Mission Statement

The mission of the Heroes of Denton County is to generate community support for the appreciation and recognition of public safety officers and their families.  And, to provide immediate support and nurturing to the families of fallen public safety officers in
Denton County.

History

Even before September 11, 2001, Dan Coffey, longtime attorney based in Denton County, and Ross Chadwick, Denton Fire Chief, recognized that we needed to be braced for such a hard reality. However, for their vision of “First Responders for the First Fesponders”, the exact organization did not already exist. The “100 Clubs” of Cook County, Illinois and Houston, Texas provided excellent models for something that would have to be built from “scratch”. Such an endeavor demands an enormous commitment of time and money. Even so, this cause moved Dan and Ross to such a degree that they convinced other community leaders to fund the creation of an organization to protect and serve the true heroes of Denton County. And so, it began.  Their initial dedication and leadership allowed this endeavor to become a reality. After "911" the resolve quickened and one by one other community leaders rallied to the cause and by October of 2002, the Heroes of Denton County received its
501 (c)(3) status.
